4/21/2004 - PMC-Sierra, Inc. (Nasdaq:PMCS - News) announced production of the newest members to its FREEDM(TM) family of HDLC packet processors and TEMUX® family of high-density T1/E1 framers. PMC-Sierra extends its leadership in the service provider market with the PM7310 FREEDM 336L, PM7311 FREEDM 84L, PM7312 FREEDM 32L and PM8320 TEMUX 84E3 devices which address highly channelized router, multi-service switching and wireless infrastructure applications. These fourth generation devices build upon PMC-Sierra's multi-service switch line card solutions and allow scalable and flexible architectures to be designed for new applications in edge routers, multi-service provisioning platforms, and wireless radio network controllers and base station controllers.
"Our established family of high-density FREEDM and TEMUX devices provide reduced power consumption, have an extensive feature set as well as flexible interconnects to ensure ease of reuse and reliable scalability in deploying next-generation equipment for global voice and data convergence," said Jean Lamarche, director of Marketing, Service Provider Division at PMC-Sierra.
Further Extending Flexible and Scalable Multi-Service Architectures
The PM7310 FREEDM 336L, PM7311 FREEDM 84L and PM7312 FREEDM 32L devices are the industry's first high-level data link control, Point-to Point Protocol (PPP), Frame Relay (FR), and Multilink-enabled packet processors to support a separate high priority path to interleave latency sensitive traffic, such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP), with fragments of large data packets. The FREEDM 336L supports up to 336 T1 or 252 E1 links and is ideal for channelized OC-12/STM-4 line card designs. The FREEDM 84L supports up to 84 T1 or 63 E1 links and up to 1024 HDLC channels and is targeted at nxDS3 and nxOC-3/STM-1 line card designs. The FREEDM 32L supports up to 32 T1 or E1 links and up to 1024 HDLC channels and is ideal for multiple T1/E1 line card designs.
Using the PM8320 TEMUX 84E3 high-density framer/mapper/multiplexer device in a line-card design expands its worldwide versatility with the addition of E3 mapping into SONET/SDH and DS3 into SDH. The TEMUX 84E3 supports up to 84 T1 or 63 E1 links or 3 DS3/E3 links and is ideal for nxDS3/E3, nxOC-3/STM-1 and scalable to nxOC-12/STM-4 line card designs.
Offering a Complete Multi-Service Solution
The FREEDM and TEMUX devices work seamlessly with a broad range of PMC-Sierra devices. Together, PMC-Sierra's SPECTRA(TM) (SONET/SDH), ARROW (SONET/SDH), S/UNI® IMA (ATM inverse multiplexer), and AAL1gator(TM) (ATM processor) families offer proven, scalable solutions that can support most major protocols at the edge of the network. PMC-Sierra's multi-service products provide OEMs with reliability and time-to-market advantage. A scalable architecture also promotes re-use of existing software and hardware designs for next-generation line cards.
