Empress Embedded Database Supports LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux 5.0

4/21/2004 - Empress Software and LynuxWorksTM announce immediate availability of EMPRESS Embedded Database V8.62 for LynuxWorks' BlueCat® Embedded Linux® 5.0, the industry's first commercially available embedded Linux technology based on the open-source Linux 2.6 kernel. EMPRESS on BlueCat Linux is designed for high-performance embedded systems applications requiring reliability, speed and scalability.

EMPRESS Embedded Database on BlueCat Linux is a full-featured database management system. Its lightning fast, small-footprint, maintenance-free database engine has APIs for C, C++, SQL, ODBC and JDBC. From small devices to large-scale multi-CPU systems, development and deployment of embedded applications including network management, industrial control, military and defense is quick and easy with EMPRESS Embedded Database on BlueCat Linux 5.0. Configuration of both the database and operating system is highly flexible, giving the developer the power to choose how to optimize the application.

"EMPRESS on BlueCat Linux can store any data type, from an address book on a mobile phone, to binary sensor data from a factory floor production line," comments Ivor Ladd, vice-president of technology for Empress Software. "No matter how big or small the data, developers are limited only by the system the application runs on."

"The availability of Empress Embedded Database for BlueCat 5.0 further expands our partnership with Empress Software by providing an Empress database solution for both LynxOS® and BlueCat," said Sonia Leal, product marketing manager for LynuxWorks. "LynuxWorks is excited to have Empress Software join them in driving adoption of the Linux 2.6 kernel. The Empress Embedded Database is an off-the-shelf-solution, making it a perfect fit for LynuxWorks' support of open standards coupled with compatible, easy-to-use software, enabling faster time-to-market for developers."
