4/20/2004 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the company driving the global core system software standard in PC systems and connected digital devices for 25 years, has entered a distribution agreement with Merisel, Inc., a leading distributor of software licenses to U.S. resellers. Merisel will offer Phoenix FirstWare® Recover Pro Network and Phoenix FirstWare Assistant as stand-alone products or bundled with leading vendor products for resale to VARs, system builders, systems integrators and other PC resellers. These products can be installed in new or existing machines, helping reduce technical support expenses, maintain business continuity and sustain worker productivity. Shipments begin this quarter.
"Phoenix solutions are a natural complement to Merisel's software licensing expertise," said Tim Jenson, CEO for Merisel. "Our resellers look to us to help them add substantial value to PC products so they can offer trusted applications that allow users to recover their systems and access important data quickly. Because Phoenix applications can be installed in existing machines, we are giving our resellers another opportunity to generate incremental revenue. This offering further strengthens our commitment to help resellers reach and service the small-to-midsize business market."
Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro Network (NW) is an easy-to-deploy, easy-to-use recovery tool for PCs and other digital devices. This powerful recovery solution is designed for small and medium businesses (SMBs) with limited IT staff. Users can restore systems to original factory settings, to the approved corporate image, or to uncorrupted versions of user data, all without a boot disk, network connection or recovery CD. Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro NW also offers central administration and local PC backup.
Phoenix FirstWare Assistant offers instant-on, read-only access to critical business information from Microsoft Outlook® - including calendar, tasks, contacts and email - providing PDA-like capability.
"Our distribution agreement with Merisel is a major endorsement of our channel strategy and a demonstration of our commitment to our resellers," said Albert E. Sisto, Chairman, President and CEO for Phoenix. "Today's enterprises need machines that are secure, simple to use and easy to maintain. Together with Merisel, we are helping our channel partners deliver that value into the marketplace so SMBs can control their technical support expenses. And, with the availability of FirstWare Assistant, it also means users can maintain productivity almost anywhere, even when offline, from a single device. This is especially beneficial for the mobile workforce, delivering cost savings, as well."
Merisel is a leader in providing software solutions to value-added partners throughout the United States. The company offers more than 37,000 products from the top developers such as Corel, Macromedia, Microsoft, Network Associates and Symantec. In addition to providing software licenses, Merisel offers a wide range of end-user and marketing support services to its small-to-medium-sized business customers.
