WEDC Increases Density and Expands Performance with 32M x 72 SDRAM

4/19/2004 - White Electronic Designs Corporation (NASDAQ:WEDC) announces the release of its 2Gb SDRAM MCP. The 32M x 72 SDRAM is a high-speed CMOS, DRAM memory using 5 chips containing 536,870,912 bits. Each chip is internally configured as a quad-bank DRAM with a synchronous interface.

White’s 32M x 72 SDRAM features high clock frequencies of 125 and 100 MHz. The component uses internal pipelined architecture to achieve high-speed operation and internal banks for hiding row access and precharge. Internal pipelined operation enables column address changes for every clock cycle. Programmable burst lengths include 1, 2, 4, 8 or full page. This SDRAM offers 8,192 refresh cycles and includes auto precharge, self-refresh and auto refresh modes.

Benefits include a 40% space savings compared to equivalent solutions, a 19% I/O reduction, reduced I/O and part count, reduced trace lengths and a laminate interposer for optimum TCE match. This module is pinout compatible with lower densities WEDPN4M72V-XBX, WEDPN8M72V-XBX and WEDPN16M72V-XBX.

The package is a 219 plastic ball grid array (PBGA), 32 x 25mm, 286mm2 and weighs 2.5 grams (typical). This package is suitable for high-reliability applications and is available in commercial, industrial and military temperature ranges.
