4/19/2004 - In addition to ERNI´s SMT and press-fit D-Sub connectors, right-angle D-Sub male and female multipoint connectors with THR (Through Hole Reflow) contacts are now also available from ERNI. Through the introduction of these products, ERNI is actively supporting its customers by reducing manufacturing costs for printed circuit boards. Previously required steps in the production process, such as selective soldering and press fitting, can now be eliminated. These reflow-capable THR components can be processed within the SMT line (in-line production).
The connectors are available in the standard (7.3 mm) and Eurostyle (3.6 mm) designs in accordance with DIN 41652 and CECC 75301-802. They are offered with 9, 15, 25 or 37 positions. Creepage distance and clearance is specified at 1.2 mm.
For fully automatic assembly, the D-Sub THR connectors are delivered on SMT-compatible trays or tape-on-reel packaging. A large, integrated pick-and-place surface enables easy and reliable pick-up with the vacuum pipette. The insulator body is made of high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic and is suited for soldering with all SMT soldering processes commonly in use. The new generation of D Sub connectors is suitable for conventional tin/lead soldering as well as lead-free soldering, which will be mandatory beginning in July 2006.
A metal mounting bracket reliably relieves the strains that arise through plug-in, removal, and cable handling. The new D-Subs are also available with the familiar locking hardware. The D-Subs are offered without threading, with a nut (M3 or #4-40 UNC), or with a locking bolt (M3 or #4-40 UNC). The locking hardware is integrated and features anti-rotation protection and ESD-resistant pre-mounting. The layout for the new THR D-Subs is compatible with the press-fit and conventional dip-soldering versions. Depending on the type of automatic assembly used, versions with or without "insertion force" can be selected. Consequently, it is possible to optimize existing assemblies for the inexpensive SMT/THR process.
The right-angle THR D-Subs that ERNI is now introducing are part of a comprehensive line up of D-Sub connectors with a new design. A variety of changes have been implemented to improve functionality and processing technology. Thanks to the modular design, it is possible to inexpensively generate virtually any number of variants.
ERNI Elektroapparate GmbH, a German member company of the international ERNI Holding Group, was established in 1956 and is headquartered in Adelberg (near Göppingen).
