EDA Consortium and VSI Alliance Expand SIP Revenue Reporting

4/16/2004 - The EDA Consortium and the VSI Alliance (VSIA) announced that the organizations have worked together to expand the EDA Consortium’s Market Statistics Service’s (MSS) Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) revenue reporting. As a result, the Q1 2004 industry revenue report, to be published at the end of June, will add over 40 new categories based on the VSIA's Virtual Component Transfer (VCT) product classification.

The EDA Consortium’s MSS report is the most timely EDA revenue report in the electronics industry and VSIA’s VCT is the industry standard for SIP product classification.

“The EDA Consortium is addressing a strong need in the industry for accurate and timely SIP revenue reporting,” said Michael Kaskowitz, VSIA President. “In support of these efforts, we are providing the Consortium with the broadly-adopted VSIA VCT standard that defines SIP categories for consistent reporting.”

“The cooperative effort between VSIA and the EDA Consortium makes the MSS report a more comprehensive document, which will benefit both the IP industry and current Consortium members,” said Walden C. Rhines, chairman of the EDA Consortium and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics Corporation. “The increased granularity provides accessible in-depth data which we anticipate will receive widespread use.”

New SIP Categories
The EDA Consortium SIP reporting categories will increase to over 40 from six. Some of the new macrocells and core categories include: physical libraries; memory; arithmetic, mathematic and logic functions; interface and peripheral cores; CODEC and encryption cores; graphics, image and audio cores and processor and DSP cores. About the MSS
The EDA Consortium’s Market Statistics Service reports EDA industry revenue data quarterly and is available by annual subscription. Each report is published approximately three months after quarter close. Individual company data is collected by PriceWaterhouseCoopers under non-disclosure. MSS report data is segmented as follows: revenue type (product licenses and maintenance, services, and SIP), application (CAE, PCB/MCM Layout, and IC Physical Design and Verification), operating system (UNIX vs. Windows), and region (North America, Western Europe, Japan, and Rest of World), with many subcategories of detail provided. The report also tracks total employment of the reporting companies. To subscribe to the Service, please contact Karla Haley at karla@edac.org or 408-857-3903.

About the EDA Consortium
The EDA Consortium is the international association of companies that provide tools and services that enable engineers to create the world's electronic products. About VSIA
The VSI Alliance (VSIA) is an open, international organization that includes representatives from all segments of the SoC industry: System houses, Semiconductor vendors, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) companies, and Intellectual Property (IP) providers. VSIA’s vision is to dramatically improve the productivity of SoC development by specifying open standards and specifications that facilitate the integration of software and hardware Virtual Components from multiple sources. Many companies have adopted the use of VSIA specifications, standards and documents. VSIA has wide industry participation with more than 100 member companies from around the world. Membership is open to any company with an interest in the development and promotion of open standards used in the design of System-on-Chip.
