Agilent Reduces Communication Networks Cost with Two Line Interfaces

4/14/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced two line interface solutions for the Agilent Network Analyzer family that help network operators reduce the time and expense of network testing and optimization. The new STM-4/OC-12 line interface module (LIM) provides real-time measurements and analysis over Sonet and SDH networks at 622 Mb/s, and is the industry's first to offer subchannel analysis down to DS-0 channels. Agilent also introduced an eight-port E1/T1 LIM for real-time inverse multiplexing for ATM (IMA) analysis and troubleshooting. The Agilent Network Analyzer is the industry's only portable solution that performs multiport IMA analysis, and it offers multiport IMA analysis at the lowest cost per port.

The STM-4/OC-12 LIM eliminates the need for multiple test access ports and analyzers to gain visibility into every DS-1 and DS-3 access trunk at a network site. Reducing these test access resources can lower maintenance costs by a factor of 10 per network site. The IMA LIM's subchannel analysis enables network engineers and technicians to analyze traffic and troubleshoot problems on thousands of access trunks and channels from a single analyzer connected to a single test access port.

"The STM-4/OC-12 and IMA interfaces significantly reduce costs while assuring increased network performance," said Steve Witt, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Network Systems Test Division. "These Agilent solutions continue to lead the market in innovation and customer-focused solutions, and they demonstrate our commitment to helping network operators save time and costs."

Features of the STM-4/OC-12 LIM include the following:

  • 100 percent full line-rate capture at 622 Mb/s and 155 Mb/s
  • Real-time expert analysis, traffic and performance statistics, protocol decodes
  • ATM and PoS bulk-rate and subchannel analysis
  • Real-time ATM AAL2 and AAL5 segmentation and reassembly
  • ISDN PRI decodes on 64 kb/s D channels
  • Single-mode and multimode fiber supported
