Accelent Systems Supports Windows CE 5.0 with SchemaBSP Builder

4/12/2004 - Accelent Systems, a leading enabler of embedded devices, announced SchemaBSP Builder supports the upcoming Windows CE 5.0 platform. SchemaBSP Builder is a complimentary front-end for Microsoft Platform Builder, enabling developers to create images necessary for Windows CE-based devices. It facilitates rapid development of production-ready Board Support Packages (BSP) for embedded devices including headless devices, PDTs, gaming devices, medical devices and many other vertical applications.

SchemaBSP Builder with Windows CE 5.0 support provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) the following key features and benefits:

“Accelent’s new enhanced SchemaBSP Builder with support for Windows CE 5.0 and integration with Platform Builder is an excellent resource for reducing the development time for next-generation small-footprint Windows Powered devices,” said Jane Gilson, group product manager, Embedded Device Group at Microsoft Corp.

Consisting of over 100 production-ready drivers including OAL and bootloader plus multiple reference hardware schematics, SchemaBSP Builder is a powerful development tool. Saving time and money spent on maintaining an embedded device through the product life. Updating to a new version of an OS, such as Windows CE 5.0, does not require creating a new BSP from scratch. Schema enables developers to easily update an existing BSP to support a new OS version by changing a few lines of code and selecting the update option within the tool.

“After extensive research Touchstone Technology found that the quickest time to market and most effective means to bring medical device to market was through the use of the SchemaBSP Builder,” states Eric Snavely, President of Touchstone Technology. “This gives us the ability to rapidly provide lower cost Windows CE-based solutions to our Fortune 500 customers.”

Carl Bock, COO for Accelent Systems, states, “we feel the feature enhancements to Windows CE 5.0 such as security, advanced multimedia capabilities and automated testing tools will help increase developers productivity. In addition enable a wider range of innovative devices with the support for even richer, higher-performance graphics and more powerful gaming capabilities. The embedded device market has been waiting for these capabilities and Microsoft is delivering.”

The SchemaBSP Builder Series also includes software development tools that support BSP development for Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs and Smartphones, and Windows Mobile software for Portable Media Centers platforms.
