4/7/2004 - TimeSys® Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux® and development tools, announced that it is working with IBM to deliver a ready-to-run embedded Linux distribution and the TimeStorm Linux Tool Suite for IBM's PowerPC 970FX processor and reference board. The TimeStorm Linux Development Kit, based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, will provide a complete embedded Linux distribution and TimeStorm development tools in a package that supports the 970FX Reference Board out of the box. Embedded developers using IBM's highest performance PowerPC processor will realize immediate development and cost-saving benefits from the availability of a royalty-free, ready-to-run TimeStorm LDK featuring a Linux 2.6 kernel and powerful TimeStorm tools.
"We are working with TimeSys to deliver our high performance PowerPC 970FX processor with the AltiVec processing engine, the Linux 2.6 kernel, and TimeSys' TimeStorm Linux Tool Suite," said Ray Bryant, director of PowerPC products, IBM Systems & Technology Group. "Our customers can benefit from integration of TimeSys Linux and the TimeStorm tool suite with our 64-bit PowerPC platforms."
The TimeStorm LDK for IBM?s PowerPC 970 is designed to help developers simplify the embedded Linux development process by providing a ready-to-run embedded Linux 2.6 distribution that includes cross-platform GNU toolchains, device drivers for all peripherals on the 970 Reference Board, a complete root filesystem, and the TimeStorm Integrated Development Environment. This combination of ready-to-run Linux and full-featured GUI-based development tools enables developers to more quickly and efficiently develop high-performance applications using the Linux operating system.
"Delivering a TimeStorm LDK with the PowerPC 970 provides developers with the most powerful and functional Linux development and testing tools on the market today," said TimeSys CEO, Larry Weidman. "IBM customers will have at their fingertips a complete suite of tools to help them customize and validate their Linux system as they move from the 970 Reference Board to production hardware using the same tools for kernel, driver and application development, making embedded Linux development easier, faster and at lower costs."
The TimeStorm Linux Tool Suite, powered by the open source Eclipse Platform, are the only tools that support the entire development and testing cycle for any Linux distribution. The TimeStorm IDE, Linux Development Suite and Linux Verification Suite provide a common workbench for kernel, driver and application development and testing, with powerful target and build management, root filesystem configuration, and source code management capabilities, combined with an automated testing framework that includes more than 1,300 Linux system software tests. For cross-platform development from Windows, Linux and Solaris host platforms, the TimeStorm tools support large, distributed team development, and benefit from compatibility with more than 350 other Eclipse Platform plug-ins.
The TimeStorm LDK for IBM's PowerPC 970 will be available from TimeSys and IBM distribution channels in the second quarter of 2004. Pricing for the TimeStorm LDK begins at $4,295 per developer seat, royalty-free.
