Opera Makes Waves with Telsey's IP Set-top Box Product Family

4/6/2004 - Telsey, a leading manufacturer of IP Set Top Boxes, has selected the Opera 7 browser for its WAVES product family. Utilizing Opera’s unique solution, WAVES can offer both IP Video Streaming and IP Video Telephony applications integrated in the same modular IP set-top box (STB) platform. Opera 7 provides WAVES with a complete set of new browsing features to enable the customers to enjoy the most appealing and powerful user interfaces for interactive IP TV applications.

Telsey's decision to use Opera 7 came after a detailed review of the available options in the browser arena. Telsey’s main reason for choosing Opera was based on its complete set of features, small footprint and suitability for even the most demanding IP TV applications. For Telsey, the integration of Opera 7 in the WAVES platform represents a further step to implement the expansion strategy of its WAVES solutions.

“A key requirement to be a leader in the IP STB market is the capability to develop in the shortest time the browser-based IP TV applications that enable STBs to be integrated in different network infrastructures with different middleware. Opera has provided us with both a powerful development environment and a highly responding support service that guarantee Telsey to be able to fulfill that requirement,” said Roberto Mestriner, CTO and Products Marketing Manager of Telsey.

“We’ve been impressed by the capability of Telsey asking all the right questions in their browser selection process. They’ve shown a deep knowledge of the IP TV market and I think we can learn a lot by working with Telsey,” said Christen Krogh, VP Engineering of Opera Software ASA.
