4/1/2004 - Ulticom, Inc. (NASDAQ: ULCM), a leading provider of signaling software enabling mobility, location, payment, switching, and messaging services, announced the general availability of a new PCI SS7 board (PH0301) featuring increased narrow-band SS7 link density and High Speed Links (HSL). The new board complements Ulticom's current SS7 board offerings, which provide channelized T1/E1 and serial interface options with PCI, cPCI, and PMC bus connectivity. When coupled with Ulticom's multi-protocol Signalware software, the SS7 board portfolio provides the industry's most comprehensive, integrated signaling solution from a single source on open computing platforms such as Solaris and Linux.
The PH0301 with HSL provides two T1/E1 interfaces that may be configured to support up to 32 narrow-band SS7 links, or one HSL link in conformance with the Q.703 Annex A specification. This specification is vital for customers looking to deploy services in emerging markets, especially China, where HSL, based on Q.703 Annex A, has been endorsed by China's Ministry of Information Industry. In addition, the PH0301 is upgradeable in the field from 8 to 32 narrow-band links or even to HSL allowing users to grow services while maximizing their return on investment. For example, a short text messaging service could be deployed with 8 links per board and expanded seamlessly via a software upgrade in the field to an HSL link as the service gains popularity.
With over 2000 deployments of Signalware around the globe the PH0301 was engineered to help customers scale systems over time. This was achieved by ensuring that the board can be used on the same computing platform as other Ulticom PCI boards allowing current customers to phase in the PH0301 without disturbing their installed base. Providing customers with additional peace of mind, the PH0301 was designed, manufactured, and developed in a TL 9000 certified environment and is UL, CE, and FCC compliant.
In addition to the PH0301, Ulticom offers a wide selection of other field upgradeable SS7 boards supporting PMC, PCI, and cPCI bus connectivity. These boards provide customers with the ultimate flexibility in computing platform support and include:
"Advances in computing technology and migration to IP networks are making it possible and necessary to deploy signaling end-points and gateways with higher throughput and high-speed connectivity," said Osman Duman, Vice President of Marketing for Ulticom. "The PH0301 provides Ulticom's customers with an effective means to manage costs while responding to changing network configurations and scale of their deployments."
"To develop service delivery platforms, network equipment providers need reliable, open interfaces to the SS7 network. We are pleased to support Ulticom's board products on the Sun platform," said Donna Rubin, Director of Growth Industries for Sun Microsystems. "Sun's SunFire and Netra platforms combined with Ulticom's carrier-grade signaling solution have been proven for many years in network deployments worldwide and provide the best platform as the industry transforms to a service-driven network."
Ulticom's comprehensive signaling solution integrates boards, like the PH0301, with Signalware software, the industry's leading signaling product featuring carrier-grade SS7, SIGTRAN, SIP and Gateway capabilities for open computing systems. Unlike source code vendors, Ulticom's sophisticated, robust APIs speed time to market and offer lower cost of ownership throughout the customer's product lifecycle. Additionally, since the company's products are OS and platform agnostic, customers can depend on a trusted signaling partner that doesn't have an expensive server/ platform agenda. Ulticom offers other benefits including global experience with over 2000 deployments in 100+ countries, extensive training, and 7 X 24 technical support.
