4/1/2004 - IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, announces that it will demonstrate its ZebOS® routing software with the Intel Modular Communications Technology Lab (Booth 2214-S) at the electronicaUSA with Embedded Systems Conference, being held March 30- April 1 in the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California. The live demonstration will show the Intel Distributed Control Plane Architecture, which can be used to implement “Next Generation Scalable and Robust Network Elements” like IP Routers. It will showcase a distributed OSPF implementation, running on a router in a network built with simulated and real routers.
The architecture enables seamless distribution of protocol functions across multiple processor levels in the system, utilizing the Embedded Intel® Architecture Processors, Intel® IXP2400 network processor, and IP Infusion’s ZebOS routing software. The result is a highly distributed control plane architecture solution that provides network equipment vendors with the ability to build scalable, highly available, and secure communications equipment. The prototype will be running on a system consisting of a Linux-based, EIA control plane and a VxWorks-based, IXP2400 Network Processor forwarding plane.
“IP Infusion, an Associate member of the Intel® Communications Alliance, is pleased to be working with Intel to demonstrate a distributed systems architecture today,” said Gary Hemminger, VP marketing at IP Infusion. “This demonstration not only shows the modularity and scalability of our routing and switching system software but also that this scalability is matched by Intel’s network processors. We can now show the OSPF protocol moved from a control plane processor, into the dataplane using the Intel® Internet Exchange Architecture processors. This distribution provides enhanced scalability, increased performance, and an order of magnitude improvement in network convergence times.”
