Cirrus Selects Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS for DVD Design

3/31/2004 - Accelerated Technology®, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT), announced that its Nucleus® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and associated middleware have been licensed by Cirrus Logic Inc. to form the foundation for Cirrus Logic's DVD reference design. The integration of the Nucleus software into the DVD reference design will give engineers a robust, all-inclusive development package in which to build their DVD applications and get them to market quickly.

Because consumers increasingly want more from their home entertainment applications, the need for a reliable, yet scalable platform on which to build feature-intensive devices is critical for embedded developers to deliver new products. Cirrus Logic's DVD reference design is a complete platform of audio and video chipsets and bundled software, built on the Nucleus RTOS foundation, which was created to speed production, reduce costs and deliver innovation to a new era of consumer DVR recorders.

The Nucleus RTOS is a widely accepted RTOS for building applications such as cellular phones, consumer electronics, portable and handheld devices and more. The Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel is scalable, robust and provides the foundation for the Nucleus family of products. Also integrated into the DVD reference design is the Nucleus POSIX API, which will allow easy migration of an embedded application to the Nucleus PLUS kernel. The Nucleus NET TCP/IP protocol stack and the Nucleus FILE file management products provide a robust networking suite and file management package. Also included to complete the offering are drivers for Ethernet, the Point-to-Point Protocol (Nucleus PPP) and the Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (Nucleus PPPoE).
