Accelerated Supports Sharp BlueStreak LH7A404 Devices with Nucleus RTOS

3/31/2004 - Accelerated Technology®, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT), announced an agreement with Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas to support the BlueStreakTM family of microcontrollers and system-on-chip (SoC) devices from Sharp, beginning with the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) and associated middleware for the LH7A404 SoC. This Nucleus RTOS release will give embedded developers a royalty-free solution in which to build high-end applications including handheld devices, media players, point-of-sale terminals, smart phones and Web pads. For more information on the Nucleus software and LH7A404 SoC solution, please visit the Accelerated Technology booth #1614 at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco for a live demonstration beginning March 30.

Specifically targeting the consumer electronics market, the BlueStreak LH7A404 SOC is a high-performance, general-purpose SoC based on a 32-bit ARM922TTM core. Part of the BlueStreak SOC family, the LH7A404 SOC provides a highly optimized solution necessary to power high-end mobile, industrial and entertainment applications.

Flexible and robust, the Nucleus PLUS kernel provides a solid foundation from which LH7A404 SOC developers can build their high-end applications. The Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel is highly scalable with a small memory footprint, providing efficient, high-performance task management, inter-task communication, inter-task synchronization and component query features for developers using the LH7A404 SoC. The Nucleus NET TCP/IP protocol stack and the Nucleus FILE file management software products provide a robust networking suite and file management package commonly required in new consumer applications. The Nucleus GRAFIX graphics package is also available to LH7A404 SOC developers for graphical user interface (GUI)-based designs, and the Nucleus USB software stack completes the package; enabling easy connection between the device and personal computer.

"Our work with Accelerated Technology is part of Sharp's ongoing strategy to compile the most comprehensive array of support tools, development resources and technologies," said Doug Jones, Manager of Application Engineering and Development Tools at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas. "When these tools are combined with our highly-integrated line of BlueStreak ARM core-based products, design engineers get to market faster and more cost effectively with their end applications."

"We have seen many requests from the consumer electronics market for a solid, tightly-integrated and proven real-time OS. The support for the LH7A404 SoC with the Nucleus RTOS and middleware will give these developers the ideal solution for high-end embedded consumer applications," said Robert Day, Director of Marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division.
