3/26/2004 - Primagraphics, the command & control, video and graphics specialist, has introduced Advantage Xi, a new generation of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) radar scan converter cards in a half-size PCI form factor, offering exceptional radar scan-conversion performance at a lower cost.
Advantage Xi is designed for applications including command and control consoles, vessel traffic display systems and radar head monitors. Radar video arrives into the card through the PCI bus, which allows the card to be used in a client-server configuration with radar distributed over a network, or in conjunction with a radar interface card, such as Primagraphics' Virgo-PCI.
Advantage Xi builds on the capabilities of the existing Advantage product family to provide radar scan-conversion from multiple sources into multiple display windows. The card features Primagraphics' White-Powell algorithm, which combines the best features of forward and reverse scan conversion to ensure there are no holes or spokes in the display image, even when zooming at long range. Scan conversion rates of over 3M pixels/sec are achieved for PPI (plan position indicator) and B-scan display formats.
Advantage Xi accepts digital video (DVI) from a graphics card. The radar picture is combined with the graphics using a sophisticated digital keying technique, which allows graphics to be displayed as an overlay to the radar video or as an underlay that is semi transparently mixed with the radar. The Advantage Xi outputs both analogue RGB and digital DVI-D video at programmable screen resolutions up to 1600 x 1280.
Commenting on the new product announcement, David Johnson, Primagraphics' product manager, said, "Advantage Xi reinforces our position as the world's leading supplier of COTS radar scan-converters. The new card provides an excellent set of capabilities in a compact package that is compatible with industry-standard graphics solutions and network-centric distribution architectures."
