VDC Forecasts SS7 Gateways to Reach $215 Million by 2006
3/26/2004 - According to a recent report by Venture Development Corporation: "Signaling Products and Related Equipment in PSTN and Voice over Packet Networks - Volume I," sales of SS7 Gateways are forecast to reach $215 million by 2006.
Primary demand drivers for new SS7 gateways include:
- Continual increases in SS7 network traffic are driving carriers to increase the capacity of their Intelligent Networks with SIGTRAN and Broadband SS7 technologies.
- Most carriers are choosing a gradual migration path from SS7 to VoP - to facilitate this transition, they are looking to purchase devices capable of supporting both traditional SS7 protocols and new VoP-related protocols.
However, it should be noted that while shipments of SS7 gateways are growing rapidly, the overall market size of these products remains relatively small compared to the entire SS7 equipment market.
