3/26/2004 - Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing, network interface, call control and signal processing products, announced its strategic relationship with Microsoft to expand the enterprise speech market. Brooktrout is a member of Microsoft’s Speech Partner Program and will collaborate with Microsoft to enable faster and easier implementation of Microsoft Speech Server 2004-based applications for integrators and developers. In addition, the Microsoft and Brooktrout relationship will allow Microsoft to leverage the established Brooktrout reseller channel of experienced telephony resellers, VADs and systems integrators to continue to develop the enterprise speech market.
Microsoft Speech Server 2004, part of the Windows Server System family of products, is designed to be the most integrated, flexible and cost-effective speech platform available for large-scale enterprises as well as midsize companies interested in reaping the significant business value of speech technology.
“The goal of the Microsoft Speech Partner Program is to provide enterprise customers with access to products and services from highly competent and skilled partners that have expertise in all areas required to successfully develop and support solutions based on the Microsoft Speech Sever 2004,” said Xuedong Huang, general manager for the Microsoft Speech Server product group at Microsoft. “Brooktrout’s support of the Microsoft Speech Server 2004 will give speech developers access to Brooktrout’s feature-rich, high-performance and standards-based environment to help them enable a faster, easier implementation.”
Brooktrout will work to integrate its award-winning TR1000TM voice and speech platform with the Microsoft Speech Server to offer advanced media processing and call control capability, allowing customers access to applications such as interactive voice response, automatic speech recognition, voice mail and unified messaging applications written to Microsoft specifications. The platform supports the SALT standard and provides speech developers the feature-rich, high-performance, and standards-based environment they demand.
“Brooktrout has worked closely with Microsoft since 1999 on several enterprise applications and with the entrance of Microsoft into the speech market, we are excited about the opportunity to introduce our product and established channel into the growing Enterprise Speech market,” said Eric Giler, president of Brooktrout. “Through its collaboration with Microsoft, Brooktrout will be able to bring its knowledge of enterprise telephony to aide in the development of this expanding market opportunity and provide a low-cost, easy solution for developing speech applications.”
Brooktrout is an active supporter of standards and joined the SALT forum in 2002. SALT is an emerging software standard intended to address the unique user-interface requirements of interactive, speech-enabled applications. SALT is a lightweight set of extensions to existing markup languages, in particular HTML and XHTML that enable multimodal and telephony access to information, applications and Web services from PCs, telephones, tablet PCs and wireless personal digital assistants.
In February 2004, Brooktrout announced new low-density versions of its TR1000 targeted at developers of enterprise voice applications. With new versions and feature enhancements, the TR1000 allows application vendors to streamline development, deploy broadly, and support their products more cost-effectively than with competing platforms. Ranging from 2 to 60 channels per board, the performance and flexibility of this feature-rich media platform allows systems to be scaled in both density and functionality to meet the current and evolving needs of advanced enterprise and service provider applications.
