3/25/2004 - Coreco Imaging, a leading developer of high-performance machine vision components and services, announced the availability of barcode reading software for Sapera Processing, the company’s common API for image processing and analysis. The Barcode Tool, which includes a comprehensive set of functions used to decode 1D and 2D bar codes, provides support for a variety of standard codes commonly used in the industry. The addition of the Barcode Tool further extends the functionality of Sapera Processing, an award-winning software library, which also includes Image Processing, Search, OCR and Blob Analysis tools.

Designed to operate on degraded and poorly illuminated images, the Barcode Tool features fast and robust algorithms and functions. Even at high speeds, the Barcode Tool can automatically locate a barcode—regardless of its orientation— within an image without having to specify a region of interest. And, since all algorithm parameters are automatically computed from the image, no threshold specification is required, making it easy for users to maintain the algorithm under changing conditions.
In addition to supporting the Data Matrix ECC200 and QR Code 2-D bar codes, the Sapera Processing Barcode Tool supports the following industry standard 1-D barcodes: Code 39; Code 128; Codabar; Interleaved 2 of 5; BC-412; EAN13; EAN8; UPC-A; and UPC-E.
As an image-based tool, the Sapera Processing Barcode Tool is significantly faster than a laser-based scanner. Modular in design, Sapera Processing is optimized for speed using MMXTM, SSETM (Streaming SIMD Extensions) and SSE2 to meet the challenging performance requirements of today’s inspection systems. To enable maximum development flexibility, Sapera Processing operates independently of any image or data acquisition hardware, providing an efficient migration path across current and future Coreco Imaging frame grabbers and vision processors, and portability to third-party platforms.
Developers can also use Sapera LT, a suite of C/C++ software libraries for image acquisition, display and control for board level control on all Coreco Imaging products. Sapera LT is hardware independent and ensures application portability across current and future Coreco Imaging frame grabbers and vision processors. In addition, Sapera Processing can be used with third party frame grabbers for truly independent functionality.
Version 5.2 of Sapera Processing contains the Barcode Tool and is available now.
