Speech Developers Benefit from OEM Agreement Between NMS and Nuance

3/25/2004 - NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS) announced the signing of an OEM agreement with Nuance (NASDAQ: NUAN), the voice automation expert, as the primary provider of speech software licenses in conjunction with NMS' enhanced services offerings. These offerings include Open AccessTM standards-based, IP-enabled system building blocks for next-generation voice, video and data services and HearSayTM, the open, complete multi-application enhanced services delivery system that enables operators to offer new enhanced services quickly and cost effectively.

Nuance's speech recognition software which powers tens of billions of calls per year for over 1000 companies worldwide, including 80% of the worlds top telecommunications carriers and 20% of the Global 500 sets the standard for voice quality and is optimized for accurate, scalable, and easy-to-deploy voice automation solutions. Now, developers of network or enterprise speech solutions, such as voice-activated dialing, customer care, information lines, and e-mail reading, can turn to NMS as a single source for all the elements needed to quickly bring to market applications that give callers the enjoyment of faster and more efficient phone-based interactions, while giving companies the power to improve customer satisfaction and lower costs.

Independent research conducted in April 2003 by Harris Research confirmed that speech interaction with automated systems is widely used and accepted: consumers reported high satisfaction with their speech experiences and cited advantages over other interaction methods such as touchtone, e-mail and the web. This, coupled with proven ROI and cost benefits, is fueling the demand for more speech-driven applications. Leading analyst firm Datamonitor estimates the voice business value chain revenues for 2004 to reach $1.02 billion.

"Voice automation is quickly becoming a business imperative," said Skip Hilton, director of partner development and marketing at Nuance. "By joining the growing list of OEM partners who are integrating Nuance's speech software into their speech solutions, NMS can help companies save costs, increase customer satisfaction and generate new sources of revenue."
