3/25/2004 - NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), provider of communications technologies and solutions for next-generation enhanced communications services and efficient networks, announced its Open AccessTM Application Challenge. This challenge will draw developers from the Americas and Europe who will compete to create cutting-edge next-generation communications applications. The competition will begin on April 1 and culminate on June 1. During the first two weeks of June, the developer community will be able to access and vote on the winning applications. Winners will be announced on June 21 at SUPERCOMM 2004. In addition to prizes and publicity, the winners will be able to consult with Hemant Taneja, principal at private equity firm General Catalyst Partners, about developing a business plan for the commercialization of their applications and flown to SUPERCOMM 2004 to demonstrate their applications.
The Open Access Application Challenge will focus on the development of next-generation communications applications, using IP and ASR technologies and products from NMS Communications. Submissions during the Challenge must be developed during the tournament timeframe and cannot be applications that currently exist. Applications developed during the Challenge will range across the communications spectrum, including Unified Messaging and Contact Center solutions such as IVR, auto attendant, directory assistance, voice mail, unified messaging and HMP. Winning applications will be selected for the following categories:

The Challenge will take place on NMS' developer portal, Telecom Innovators Central, which will provide the development and hosting environments, technical support and application verification. NMS software and other tools will be available for downloading at Telecom Innovators Central.
