3/25/2004 - Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD) announced the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protectionís (CDF) purchase of RDM Embedded running on Win32 and Solaris operating systems.
CDF is dedicated to the fire protection and stewardship of over 31 million acres of Californiaís privately-owned wildlands. CDFís firefighters, fire engines and aircraft respond to an average 6,300 wildland fires, and more than 286,000 non-wildfire emergencies each year.
CDF uses Birdstepís embedded databases as the core database management system for their InciNet System. InciNet is CDFís mobile computer network and software program used to assist with the management of large-scale emergency incidents. RDM Embeddedís portability, small footprint, and performance allows InciNet to be used on everything from a single laptop running the Windows operating system to a multiple user network running the Solaris operating system.
Birdstepís embedded databases provide the reliability and zero-administration that the CDF needs. RDM Embedded is a high-speed, small footprint, zero-administration database with real time functionality and unmatched reliability. It runs on all popular operating systems including Linux, Windows, Solaris and RTOSís such as QNX, MontaVista and WindRiver.
ďRDM Embedded provides unsurpassed dependability and speed, which is essential for the fire fighting industry,Ē said Tom Clark, Birdstep Technology, Inc. CEO.
