3/24/2004 - Magma Design Automation’s Silicon Correlation Division announced that Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD) has standardized on SiliconSmart CRTM for timing and power characterization of their nanometer libraries. Their decision to standardize on SiliconSmart CR was based on an extensive evaluation of the product and the long-term success of SiliconSmart CR at Conexant Systems, Inc., the former parent company of Mindspeed.
Design teams at Mindspeed recognize that the accuracy of their analysis and the resulting performance of silicon are directly related to the quality of the gate-level models used to drive the design flow. The shrinking transistor sizes and tighter coupling between signal interconnect present in nanometer processes introduces new design challenges for power management and controlling noise-induced signal delays. To ensure the continued design of high-quality semiconductor products, Mindspeed timing and power libraries require up-to-date process models, as well as a characterization and modeling solution that accurately accounts for the increased delays and higher leakage currents.
“Models that are predictably correlated to silicon are the foundation of successful designs,” said Dr. Chin-Fu Chen, director of EDA and Core Technology business management for Mindspeed. “At Mindspeed, our engineers depend on quality timing and power models to truly predict the complex electrical behaviors of nanometer silicon. SiliconSmart CR is a crucial component of our SoC design flow for all our network applications.”
Using design flows from multiple vendors, Mindspeed implemented a complete cell characterization and modeling methodology built on the proven technology of SiliconSmart CR. Mindspeed relied upon the advanced measurement acquisition and sophisticated modeling technology to deliver the precise timing and power models necessary for each design teams’ specific operating point, fabrication process and tool flow.
“Mindspeed deploys advanced solutions for design and development of their advanced semiconductor products,” said Vess Johnson, general manager of the Silicon Correlation Division of Magma. “We’re pleased to add Mindspeed to a growing list of high-profile customers using the Silicon Correlation Division’s design-proven characterization and modeling solutions.”

About SiliconSmart CR
SiliconSmart CR is the Silicon Correlation Divisions standard cell solution for addressing the cell characterization needs of library development and design teams. Supporting multiple design flows, the technology provides the ease-of-use, performance, accuracy, quality, and extensibility to dramatically simplify the process of characterizing nanometer libraries for timing, power, and signal integrity. With features such as interdependent constraints, delay degradation, over sampling, accurate switching, and hidden and leakage power measurement acquisition, SiliconSmart technology produces the sophisticated models that allow a gate-level design flow to produce SPICE-accurate results. The use of these accurate, high-quality models during synthesis, static timing and power analysis, as well as place-and-route results in fewer design iterations.
About the Silicon Correlation Division
The Silicon Correlation Division is an independent business unit and division of Magma Design Automation. Formed to enable a position of neutrality in the market place, the division’s mission and business model are based on providing characterization and modeling solutions that support a variety of industry standard design flows. Toward that objective, the Silicon Correlation Division has developed partnerships and close working relationships with many EDA vendors and customers in the development and support of popular design flows. To tailor support for all partners, the Silicon Correlation Division maintains an independent sales, support, engineering, and marketing force operating from headquarters in Austin, Texas.
