Performance Technologies Unveils SEGway 4200 Signaling Gateway

3/24/2004 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leader in unified systems design for the communications, industrial and military markets, introduced the SEGwayTM 4200 Signaling Gateway. When used in conjunction with softswitches, media gateways and application servers, the SEGway 4200 Signaling Gateway is capable of supporting both circuit-switched and IP-based SS7 links, bridging the transition to next-generation IP networks.

“Our new SEGway 4200 offers real investment protection to service providers and carriers looking for advantages in today’s competitive environment,” said Deb Brunner-Walker, product manager for Performance Technologies. “The 4200 shares a common hardware platform with our SEGway 2200 IP-Edge device as well as with future Performance Technologies products targeted for release in Q2 2004. The multi-purpose capability and price competitiveness of this platform provides true cost benefits for telecom equipment vendors.”

Designed using the latest industry standards and engineered for NEBS reliability, the Performance Technologies family of signaling gateways offers unparalleled performance and capabilities demanded by the voice over IP networks of today and tomorrow. In a highly robust, 1U, carrier-grade form factor, the enhanced SEGway 4200 has the capacity to scale up to 24 signaling links and up to 16 M2PA links. Its IP-PSTN integration capabilities allow IP telephony applications to emulate the call control functionality or service processing capabilities of traditional circuit-switched telephone network switches.

The SEGway product family provides high reliability solutions through Performance Technologies’ distributed signaling software architecture, which can distribute the SS7 protocol stack across two units and utilizes the multi-homing capabilities of the SCTP protocol. When deploying platforms in a mated pair configuration with each link fully redundant, each signaling device is capable of handling the full load of message traffic should the other go out of service, ensuring reliable operation of the system as a whole.

The SEGway 4200 Signaling Gateway is available immediately.
