Extended Systems and Messaging Architects Roll Out GWAnywhere 2.0

3/23/2004 - Extended Systems (Nasdaq: XTND), a leading provider of mobile application solutions for the enterprise, and Messaging Architects, a Novell Premier Level DeveloperNet partner and provider of enterprise-class e-mail security and enhancement software for the Novell GroupWise market, announced at Brainshare 2004 the release of GWAnywhere 2.0. GWAnywhere 2.0 is an enterprise-class wireless messaging platform created specifically for Novell GroupWise users.

According to analyst firm IDC, Novell GroupWise has an installed base of more than 30 million seats. "Today, enterprises continue to consider wirelessly enabling e-mail and PIM, understanding the importance of this communication medium for its mobile workers and as an initial foray into larger mobile-enablement projects," said Stephen Drake, program manager for IDC's Mobile Infrastructure Software service. "Providing solutions to wirelessly-enable all of the leading groupware offerings, such as Novell's GroupWise is critical to address customer needs and help demonstrate vendors' comprehensive approach to supporting multiple back-end applications in wireless environments."

Built upon Extended Systems' OneBridge Mobile Groupware platform, GWAnywhere 2.0 will enable GroupWise users to have anytime, anywhere access to e-mail and PIM (personal information management) information on virtually any mobile device, including Palm and Pocket PC-based devices. The product provides centralized IT control and device management, support for any wired or wireless connection (GPRS, GSM, CDMA/1XRTT, Bluetooth, 802.11, infrared and cable/cradle) and end-to-end FIPS 140-2 complaint security. Messaging Architects will resell GWAnywhere2.0 to its customer base.

"Novell is pleased that Messaging Architects and Extended Systems are delivering a fully wireless sync solution for GroupWise," said Ed Anderson, vice president of marketing for Novell's Nterprise Platform Services group. "Mobile messaging has always been a strong point for GroupWise, and GWAnywhere is making GroupWise collaboration even more accessible to our customers."

"We partnered with Extended Systems to bring a wireless messaging solution to Novell GroupWise users because of their superior product offering," said Pierre Chamberland, CEO at Messaging Architects. "We are happy that our collaboration allowed us to bring the first true enterprise-class solution for mobile messaging for GroupWise, satisfying a real need among our customer base."

Charles Jepson, president and CEO at Extended Systems points out that Novell GroupWise users will benefit by having a robust method to access e-mail and other PIM data on mobile devices. "This will enable companies who want to go mobile to stay with the Novell platform."
