3/23/2004 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS) and Green Hills Software, Inc. announced that Green Hills Software’s comprehensive set of software development tools for MIPS-BasedTM applications supports the new MIPS32® 24KTM family, the embedded industry’s highest performance 32-bit synthesizable processor cores.
By using Green Hills Software’s fully integrated, end-to-end MULTI Integrated Development Environment (IDE), MIPS Technologies licensees, SOC developers and end users of 24K core-based systems can increase programmer productivity, reduce development cost and speed time-to-market. The comprehensive tool set, which is optimized for the MIPS32 and MIPS64® architectures, integrates the Green Hills MULTI® Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with simulators from MIPS Technologies, a high-performance hardware debug probe, and operating systems support across a wide range of applications.
"MIPS Technologies' 24K cores are the most powerful synthesizable cores available for 32-bit embedded applications such as digital TVs and set-top boxes, and developers using these processors can be assured of quick time-to-profit by taking advantage of the best development environment for MIPS processors," said Rob Redfield, Director of Partner Programs at Green Hills Software.
“Customers who want to take advantage of the exceptional performance of the 24K family can do so with speed, ease and efficiency, thanks to the support of leading tools providers such as Green Hills Software,” said Jack Browne, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. “Green Hills’ best-in-class tool chain, which supports dozens of MIPS-based processors and cores, offers an excellent solution for embedded software development.”
MULTI, together with Green Hills Software’s family of optimizing C, C++, EC++ and Ada95 compilers, automates all aspects of embedded software development. Featuring a feature-rich source level debugger, performance profiler, and run-time error checker, MULTI also includes the CodeBalance speed/size profile-driven optimizer, real-time EventAnalyzer, version control system, graphical program builder, and multiple-language syntax colored window-oriented editor. MULTI also provides an instruction-set simulator that allows programmers to develop their code without the need for target hardware.
In addition to the 24K family, Green Hills’ software development tools support the MIPS32 4KTM, 4KETM and 4KSTM, the MIPS64 5KTM core families, and the MIPS64 20KcTM and 25KfTM cores. They also support MIPS-Based processors developed by MIPS Technologies licensees such as NEC, LSI Logic, PMC-Sierra and Toshiba.
About the MIPS32 24K Family
The MIPS32 24K core family, which includes the 24KcTM, 24Kc ProTM, 24KfTM and 24Kf Pro versions, offers performance up to 550 MHz, the highest frequency available in 32-bit synthesizable cores, while minimizing design time and reducing product costs. Tailored SOC design methodologies, an Open Core Protocol (OCP) interconnect structure, standard libraries and on-chip memories from industry-leading companies help speed time-to-market, an important advantage for a processor core suited to consumer applications such as digital and interactive TVs, set-top boxes and DVD players.
