3/19/2004 - Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH), an international supplier of next-generation networking technologies, announced that it will supply communications controllers, network security solutions, and specialized I/O technology for use in the new IBM eServer® BladeCenter T system, which is designed to provide cost-effective, customizable solutions for use in telecommunications central office and data center networking environments.
"Interphase is very pleased to participate in the IBM eServer BladeCenter T announcement and the extension of IBM's presence into the telecommunications market," said Randall McComas, Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Interphase Corporation. "The eServer BladeCenter T offering is a highly flexible, scalable, modular, and cost-effective solution based on a robust technology architecture. Coupled with Interphase's industry leading communications I/O and protocol interworking offerings, the BladeCenter T will enable IBM to meet the needs of both public and private sector network applications. Thus, IBM's advanced, high performance design is now united with Interphase's network migration solutions for linking legacy and new packet-based networks. The synergies between Interphase and IBM's offerings have resulted in one of the most powerful solutions the industry has seen to date and should rapidly help expand IBM's reach into the telecommunications network marketplace."
IBM has tested and ServerProvenTM a number of Interphase products for the initial deployment of the eServer BladeCenter T program, with plans for additional products as market applications are developed and tested by both Interphase and IBM. Some of the initial Interphase products to be deployed with the BladeCenter T program include an intelligent T1/E1/J1 communications controller, an intelligent ATM over OC-3/STM-1 communications controller, and a PCI/PCI-X network security acceleration card.
Among the ServerProven products is the Interphase 5539F PCI T1/E1/J1 Communications Controller, which is targeted for use in traditional wireless base stations, SGSNs, HLRs, GGSNs, gateways, DSLAMs, SCPs, routers, VPNs, softswitches, and media gateways. Also selected is the 4532 PMC ATM over OC-3/STM-1 Communications Controller, which is designed to support the most demanding high-speed ATM applications, including broadband Internet access, second and third generation wireless, and "converged" next generation networks (i.e. softswitch environments). Both products support ATM-Ethernet interworking capability, providing a gateway-on-a-card solution for bridging dissimilar network technologies.
The 5585 PCI/PCI-X network security acceleration card will be incorporated into BladeCenter T solutions for applications such as VPNs, gateways, secure routers, and firewalls to eliminate the bottleneck of network traffic by offloading bandwidth-intensive IPSec security protocol processing from the host CPU. The module is designed to support Gigabit-line-speed network security applications, and is expected to offer a nearly twenty-five-times improvement in system performance compared to a software-only security solution. Based on the Hifn 8155 security processor, the Interphase 5585 adapter accelerates processing of basic security algorithms, including DES, 3DES, MD5, SHA-1, RC4, and AES, with enhanced encryption protocol support for 192 and 256-bit 3DES keys, as well as 256-bit AES (wide key AES) keys, which are required for today's most advanced network security applications. Other product features include a 64-bit/133MHz PCI/PCI-X bus with universal signaling, support for OC-12 (622Mbps) rates, and up to 500K simultaneous sessions.
"Interphase is excited to be a part of the IBM eServer BladeCenter T program. This program offers telecom OEM customers the high-availability, high performance, scalable communications platforms they are looking for," said Greg Kalush, President and Chief Executive Officer, Interphase Corporation. "These innovative, flexible solutions help us address one of the largest concerns our telecom OEM customers have, which is reducing time-to-market and saving money while deploying scalable solutions."
"Interphase has a successful track record in working with telecommunications equipment providers," said Tim Dougherty, Director of the IBM eServer BladeCenter program. "The Interphase solutions are a perfect complement to the durability of the eServer BladeCenter T in meeting the rigorous requirements of the telecom industry."
