3/19/2004 - At CeBIT 2004, Fujitsu Siemens Computers will present the new FUTRO B series Thin Clients with their compact picotower housing (18.6cm x 6.7cm x 16.8cm). The FUTRO B210, FUTRO B220 and FUTRO B230 models are aimed at users opting for terminal server concepts to ensure high security, reduce space requirements and lower total cost of ownership. Because they operate without fans, the systems are virtually silent. The new version of the eLux NG operating system means making connections to different servers and mainframes is now even simpler, with no knowledge of Linux required for operation. The new FUTRO B is available from specialty stores as of April with prices starting at €419.
Terminal server concepts are the ideal solution where IT infrastructure is used primarily to enter data, query central databases, process e-mails and operate special office applications. In addition to the drop in total cost of ownership, primarily advantages include ease of administration, high availability and superb security features. As a result, numerous public authorities and private enterprises (including banks and insurance companies) have implemented the terminal server concept.
Despite its compact picotower housing, the FUTRO B offers all the usual PC interfaces and fulfills every requirement characteristic to terminal users in multi-user environments. All components are designed for low energy consumption, and because it has no fans, the FUTRO B is extremely quiet and fail-safe. And with its various configuration options and expansion capabilities, the FUTRO B series can be customized to meet individual customer requirements – even those exceptionally demanding ones.
The embedded eLux NG operating system is particularly well suited for setting up connections to different servers. The SCOUT NG management tool allows for the simple central administration of eLux-based clients, making the on-site deployment of service staff largely a thing of the past. Furthermore, on request, the new FUTRO B230 is also available with the Windows XP Embedded operating system.
To help fulfill specific customer needs, Fujitsu Siemens Computers also offers development support. Solutions in the form of products with a customer-specific image are available through the made4you customizing program, as well as from the company’s PC plant in Augsburg, Germany. Management software for XPe equipment is also offered by Fujitsu Siemens Computers in collaboration with Altiris.
