PLX Demonstrate Interoperability of PCI Express Products at PCI-SIG

3/19/2004 - PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the leading supplier of standard I/O interconnect silicon to the communications, server, storage and embedded-control industries, announced it will demonstrate the interoperability capabilities of its PCI-based technology at the PCI-SIG® PCI Express and PCI Compliance Workshop, March 22-26, in Milpitas, Calif. PLX® switching and bridging devices based on PCI ExpressTM technology, along with the company's new PCI and PCI-X bridging devices, will be put to the test in the workshop's demanding interoperability environment.

The soon-to-be-introduced PLX PCI Express switches and bridges will be tested in a range of different applications with various products from key industry players. Additionally, PLX's PCI-to-PCI and PCI-X-to-PCI-X bridging devices also will take part in the workshop, regarded as one of the premier interoperability events in the interconnect market.

"In a matter of weeks, PLX will introduce its new PCI Express switching and bridging devices, and this compliance workshop will serve as a proving ground for the chips' interoperability in real-world applications," said Akber Kazmi, PLX senior marketing manager. "As with the first PCI Express Compliance Workshop, in which PLX PCI Express technology's interoperability was demonstrated, this event will highlight not just how far PCI Express has come but also that PLX is leading the way with the most-comprehensive blend of PCI Express products and enabling technologies."

"PCI has penetrated virtually every segment of the server, storage, communications and embedded-control markets, creating a need for devices that expand and preserve the investment in systems based on the PCI interconnect," said Stephen Moore, senior product marketing manager at PLX. "The PLX PCI and PCI-X bridging devices being tested - and showing their interoperability advantages - at this compliance workshop represent the very chips that enable such system expansion and investment preservation."

The PCI-SIG, the special interest group responsible for overseeing PCI and PCI Express technology standards, hosts its Compliance Workshops up to five times a year in various locations around the world. The compliance workshops offer members the opportunity to test and validate their products before they enter the field. Testing is completed against the PCI-SIG maintained systems, as well as other leading manufacturers of PCI products.

PLX has the most-complete portfolio of PCI-based interconnect chips in the industry, from 32-bit, 33MHz PCI controllers to advanced PCI and PCI-X bridging devices to the new PCI Express switches and bridges. The company is among the industry's first vendors to announce support and development efforts for PCI Express technology, and will introduce in Q2 of this year the first silicon in its PCI Express line. PLX plans to build the industry's most-compressive PCI Express product line and expects systems based on this silicon to debut this year.

PLX has been developing I/O interconnect solutions since 1986.
