SavaJe and Intel Optimize Java Platform for Mobile Vendors

3/15/2004 - SavaJe Technologies announced a program to optimize SavaJe's operating system (OS) for Intel® Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) processors and Intel's single chip solutions for GSM/GPRS and 3G networks including current and future platforms. SavaJe's OS is available today for the next-generation Intel processor for wireless devices, code-named "Bulverde".

This platform approach will reduce deployment costs for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing next-generation mobile handsets and accelerate time-to-market. With an optimized, pre-ported platform, OEMs no longer have to allocate resources to ensure the underlying technologies work well together, which, in turn, reduces handset technology costs and increases production cycles for new handset introductions. Intel publicly demonstrated the SavaJe OS running on a Bulverde development platform in September 2003 at the Intel Developer's Forum.

SavaJe OS is a powerful and flexible platform for mobile handsets which allows operators to deliver a rich user experience, customized branded applications and services. SavaJe OS has been optimized to deliver industry-leading Java performance on small footprint mobile devices with standards-compliant Java APIs allowing developers to create robust and sophisticated applications for wireless devices.

The Bulverde processor is based on Intel XScale® technology and is designed for advanced wireless and connected devices, such as full-featured mobile phones and PDAs. This upcoming processor will add several new features that will enable wireless devices to capture high quality still and video pictures through Intel® Quick Capture Technology, extend battery life with Wireless Intel® SpeedStepTM Technology and deliver fast multimedia performance through Intel® Wireless MMXTM technology.

"We're pleased to see SavaJe optimizing the SavaJe OS for Intel PCA processors," said Gadi Singer, Intel vice president, and general manager of the Cellular and Handheld Group. "This work will provide an open, secure, high-performance Java solution for OEMs targeting the wireless market."

"SavaJe has used Intel architectures for development since its inception, and we are committed to working with them to help ease the development effort of our OEM customers creating new handsets for consumers," said Bob Gilkes, chairman and CEO of SavaJe Technologies. "Optimizing our OS for Intel PCA processors will save our OEM partners time and money and accelerate the development of state-of-the-art designs for the market."
