3/11/2004 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the company driving the global core system software standard in PC systems and connected digital devices for 25 years, has extended and expanded its licensing agreement with leading Korea-based global electronics company LG Electronics. Phoenix cME FirstBIOSTM Notebook Pro, which leverages more than two decades of Phoenix success with device-level management and capitalizes on the Phoenix Core Managed Environment (cMETM), will be built into LG Electronics' new line of branded notebook computers. This will bring LG Electronics notebook users better performance, increased manageability and more security.
"We are establishing our branded product line, so we needed the best code in the industry," said Steve Yoon, Vice President and Chief of PC Research Lab for LG Electronics. "Our ongoing and expanded partnership with Phoenix allows us to build high performance, trusted notebooks. This helps us fulfill our vision of creating digital products that are more secure, innovative, interactive and functional for a digital world that is safer and more people-friendly."
Phoenix cME FirstBIOS Notebook Pro is part of the comprehensive cME FirstBIOS family of products that represents the next generation of core system software. Built into the core of a digital machine but independent of its operating system, Phoenix cME is a portfolio of enabling technologies that can deliver improved system reliability and management capabilities that are always available and totally secure.
Based on the Phoenix NoteBIOS code base, Phoenix cME FirstBIOS Notebook Pro provides significantly enhanced performance for faster boot times, a new ROM-based security framework for strong authentication, and a rich graphical user interface for 256-color, high-resolution display. All of these features help PC and device manufacturers build the most stable, unique products while reducing development cycles and taking products to market faster.
"Leading electronics vendors like LG Electronics understand that users need more from their PCs and devices today," said Michael Goldgof, Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Products Division for Phoenix. "People need machines they can trust in a networked environment, where even a simple Internet connection can leave a digital device open to serious attack. In addition to LG Electronics, many of the world's foremost PC manufacturers and OEMs are building state-of-the-art Phoenix core system software into their products to ensure they are delivering the best performing, most secure devices possible."
Founded in 1979, Phoenix Technologies (NASDAQ: PTEC) helped launch the digital revolution when it created the industry's leading machine-independent BIOS software, which ships in more than 100 million new systems each year. Phoenix leveraged that core-level experience to develop Core System Software, which moves beyond BIOS for the age of networked devices. Today, Phoenix solutions activate, secure, connect, and recover the world's best-known systems. These solutions operate from the Phoenix Core Managed Environment (cME), where they're built in and protected from viruses, user errors, hackers, and corruption. Phoenix is headquartered in Milpitas, Calif. USA (Silicon Valley), with offices in global business and technology centers.
