3/11/2004 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified the TA-12S GPS aviation receiver to TSO-C129a Class B1/C1 for SPS operations. The TA-12S is the first Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) based GPS receiver to receive this certification. The TA-12S offers users a truly unique system that incorporates the latest Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) military GPS requirements and meets the stringent certification requirements for flight operations in civil-controlled airspace.
The announcement was made at the 2004 Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) Users Conference.
The new architecture and design for the TA-12S integrates Trimble's Model 21 SAASM GPS receiver architecture with a number of other highly leveraged pre-planned product improvements such as increased anti-jam performance, improved reliability and testability, plus advanced integrity performance. The TA-12S is a backwards compatible replacement for the Trimble TASMANTM ARINC-12 (TA-12) GPS receiver currently installed in a variety of U.S. and authorized International military aircraft.
"The TA-12S continues to build on Trimble's legacy of providing the most secure, reliable and robust military GPS systems available for the U.S. Military and its Allies operating within the NAVWAR environment," said Ron Smith, general manager of Trimble's Military and Advanced Systems. "By incorporating Trimble's approved SAASM Model 21, the TA-12S will be enhanced with a proven security architecture that is currently in production for other Trimble military products."
The TA-12S was developed under contract for Boeing Wichita, the prime integrator for the USAF KC-10A GATM Upgrade Program. Trimble began delivery of TA-12S production units in February 2004.
