Fujitsu Bundles Adobe Acrobat 6.0 with Entire Scanner Line

3/4/2004 - Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, announced it will bundle Adobe® Acrobat 6.0 software with Fujitsu's entire suite of scanners shipping within the United States. As part of the agreement, Acrobat 6.0 Standard is now available with every workgroup, departmental, and production scanner across Fujitsu's enterprise line. Acrobat 6.0 is also bundled with the Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution, the company's first sub-$500 scanner for small, medium, and home offices.

The agreement makes Fujitsu, the worldwide enterprise-level document imaging market share leader, the first imaging vendor to bundle the complete version of Acrobat 6.0 Standard across its entire scanner line. Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files have become the defacto file format for corporations within the banking, education, energy, financial, government, healthcare and manufacturing industries -- all of which have requirements to digitize and store the mass amounts of paper-based information produced on a daily basis. Now, with Acrobat 6.0 Standard, users have even more features and functionality to create, secure, share, review, and archive files.

Acrobat 6.0 Standard incorporates new functions, including expanded security and authentication features for encrypting and digitally signing documents. Acrobat 6.0 Standard also includes an expanded set of collaboration features for managing document-based reviews.

"Fujitsu's scanner customers, in industries such as government, banking, and healthcare, not only have a need to digitize all of their critical documents, but also have that collateral transformed into intelligent documents to further enable business processes," said Victor Kan, senior director of product and channel marketing, Imaging Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "The new functionality incorporated into Acrobat 6.0 Standard provides even more flexibility and business-critical capabilities to accelerate organizational productivity."

In addition to the Acrobat 6.0 Standard software's simplified user interface and enhanced speed and performance, Fujitsu scanner users have access to all of the new features and functionality, including the ability to:

  • Automatically scan paper document archives to compact, fully searchable Adobe PDF files.
  • Increase file security with password protection to prevent unauthorized users from opening and viewing sensitive documents.
  • Apply permissions with 128-bit encryption that control whether users are allowed to view, edit, comment on, sign, or print Adobe PDF files.
  • Approve final documents with digital signatures, verify authenticity and build a list of trusted certificates.
  • Automatically create a list of reviewers and track whether feedback is received.
  • Indicate text edits such as insertions, deletions, and replacements with a single keystroke; add custom stamps; and use sticky notes and highlights to comment on documents.
  • Convert Microsoft Office application files to Adobe PDF with one button click.
  • Gather comments from multiple reviewers into a single Adobe PDF file, or view them collectively in a separate window and export comments to Microsoft Word 2002 to eliminate retyping.

Fujitsu's entire line of enterprise scanners is available through authorized resellers, VARs, and distributors including Compucenter de Mexico, Cranel Imaging, Ingram Micro Inc., NewWave Technologies, Optical Laser and Tech Data.
