3/4/2004 - Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and networking solutions, and Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSEE), a leading provider of business and service assurance solutions, announced that the Fujitsu NETSMART® 1500 Element Management System (EMS) has been certified as Netcool® ReadyTM. As a partner within the Micromuse Alliance Program, Fujitsu has worked closely with Micromuse to certify interoperability of the NETSMART 1500 EMS with the Netcool/OMNIbusTM application. Carriers who use Netcool solutions for management of hardware platforms from multiple vendors can now also directly control Fujitsu equipment from a central location and system.
Today's complex, multi-vendor networks rely on sophisticated EMS software from each hardware vendor to allow carriers to leverage the advanced functionality of the vendor's network platforms. The Netcool/OMNIbus application communicates with EMS platforms from Netcool Ready partners to subsequently manage and control network hardware from a wide variety of hardware vendors within a single, centralized system. As new features are added to these hardware platforms and their associated EMS software is updated, operations personnel can immediately take advantage of new functionality.
The integration of the NETSMART 1500 EMS with the Netcool/OMNIbus application allows operations personnel to centrally manage the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) and FLASHWAVE 7000 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) products. Fujitsu and Micromuse will ensure continued interoperability of the software platforms by sharing release plans, arranging for periodic interoperability testing and by jointly planning interface enhancements that benefit Fujitsu and Micromuse customers.
"Fujitsu is always looking for ways to help our broad customer base manage their network more efficiently, while lowering their operating costs," said Steve Pelosi, vice president of network operations planning at Fujitsu Network Communications. "When the capabilities of our NETSMART 1500 EMS are combined with the advanced network surveillance tools provided within the Netcool/OMNIbus application suite, service providers gain an integrated management solution for complex, multi-vendor networks. This allows customers to operate fully integrated network management systems without concern for maintaining concurrency between different EMS software and the network elements they control."
"Centralized management and real-time monitoring of optical networks is the key to minimizing ongoing operational costs," said Darin Layman, vice president of OEMs and alliances at Micromuse. "As a member of our Alliance Program, Fujitsu will work closely with Micromuse regarding development and interoperability of our software platforms to elevate the standard for service quality through integrated optical network management."
The NETSMART 1500 EMS allows carriers to manage, provision and maintain up to 8,000 network elements from a single server. This fully integrated solution includes a comprehensive suite of element management features for quick and efficient turn-up of Ethernet, WDM, ATM and SONET services. The NETSMART 1500 software provides unparalleled scalability to support network provisioning, maintenance and surveillance. Carriers that deploy the NETSMART 1500 EMS realize operational expenditure savings, while enjoying powerful security and network survivability features.
