Atmel Rolls Out AViiVA Linescan Cameras with Customization Features

3/4/2004 - Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced the availability of the AT71XSM2CL and AT71XSC2CL, known as the AViiVA SM2 and AViiVA SC2 linescan cameras. These new members of the AViiVATM range of CCD cameras incorporate the same features that made the success of the AViiVA M2 and C2, with added flat-field correction capabilities to compensate for lens and light source non-uniformities and contrast expansion functions. White balance and color space correction are distinctive characteristics of the AViiVA SC2. Specific Commcam software, also developed by Atmel, renders camera configuration easy.

These smarter cameras are operable within a dynamic precision range of 8, 10 or 12 bits with dedicated electronics that offer excellent signal-to-noise ratio. Atmel's detector manufacturing process guarantees excellent PRNU values, a significant element of differentiation from competitors. The AViiVA SM2, [Smarter Monochrome 2 taps] features a sensor from 512 to 4K pixels, a 10 or 14 micron pixel size, and the AViiVA SC2, [Smarter Color 2 taps] features a 4K-pixel sensor with a 10 micron pixel size and an RGB color pattern (1365 x RGB pattern). Both models still come in a 56-mm-wide casing and can operate at speeds up to 60 million pixels per second while retaining the same compact mechanical design. Furthermore, they are available with C, F, T2 and M42 x 1 mounts. All features combined, these devices are ideal for such demanding industrial applications as food sorting, wood or currency inspection, CD and DVD quality control, or flat panel displays, to name but a few.

The AViiVA SM2 and SC2 cameras support a CameraLinkTM serial interface and are compatible with all major CameraLink frame grabbers available on the market today. With CommCam software, the end-user gains easy access to all of the cameras' features such as fine gain and offset tuning, integration mode, flat-field correction calibration and configuration save and restore. CommCam further enables automatic identification of the camera range, faster programming, multilingual programming of functions and uploading of firmware for upgrades and customization, this last point being invaluable in responding to the customer's specific needs.

The SC2 and SM2 cameras will enter their production phase in April 2004.
