Agilent Speeds Ultra-wideband Communication Development for Global

3/1/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Global Interface Technologies Inc. has selected Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) electronic design automation (EDA) software and new ultra-wideband (UWB) DesignGuide to help speed development of baseband ASICs, RFICs and modules for ultra-wideband transceivers. Global Interface Technologies, with offices in Japan and the U.S., is a provider of electronic design services for development of large-scale integration processors, printed circuit boards and subsystems for the communications industry.

Agilent ADS software offers a complete set of front-to-back simulation and layout tools, and instrument links for RF and microwave IC design in a single, integrated design flow. The UWB DesignGuide, which works within the ADS environment, streamlines the design and verification process for ultra-wideband designs by providing preconfigured simulation setups, signal sources and tests for quick simulation of circuitry used in ultra-wideband applications. In addition, all the major foundries that Global Interface Technologies works with support ADS.

"The comprehensive verification tools available with ADS minimize design reiteration so that we can develop our products more quickly," said Shogo Ida, president and CEO of Global Interface Technologies. "ADS and the UWB DesignGuide enable us to verify system performance before fabrication or breadboarding. We expect these tools from Agilent to move us to the next level in design verification, giving us and our customers more confidence in the products we make."

With ADS and the UWB DesignGuide, designers can quickly analyze ultra-wideband, pulse-based spectrums to account for RF effects. Simulations such as baseband, signal processing and digital control are performed in a mixed-signal environment. Previously, designers invented their own test benches and models to analyze these effects. The UWB DesignGuide provides designers with standard and highly accurate test benches and models to eliminate the extra time and guesswork involved in creating them, resulting in faster product design and verification.

"It is very exciting to see Global Interface Technologies embrace our industry-leading simulation technology and our new UWB DesignGuide," said Afshin Amini, product marketing manager of Agilent's EEsof EDA Division. "As standards for ultra-wideband communcations emerge, Agilent expects to be at the forefront, supplying the models and tools to support them."
