2/26/2004 - Even more households in rural Manitoba will soon be connected to the broadband world, thanks to an aggressive network infrastructure build-out recently announced by Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (MTS), Canada's fourth largest telephone company. Paradyne®'s (NASDAQ: PDYN) broadband access platform will expand the reach of MTS's DSL service to residents in rural areas who have been unable to experience high-speed Internet connections, until now.
MTS turned to Paradyne, a leading provider of broadband voice, data and video network access solutions, to assist in rolling out DSL high-speed Internet service to even more rural Manitoba communities than the 70 currently on the MTS network. Paradyne's technology provided a cost effective solution to deliver high-speed Internet, and offered the option for future growth via new applications and increasing the number of users.
"DSL has changed the way people view the telephone company," said Kelvin Shepherd, vice president of network services and chief technology officer of MTS Communications Inc, MTS's largest subsidiary. "With Paradyne's DSL platform, we're able to extend the reach of our broadband offering to more Manitoba communities than ever before. Paradyne worked with us to define both a technically feasible and economically beneficial plan that hits the mark, allowing us to address new markets with a cost-effective rollout of ADSL service."
MTS will immediately begin deploying standards-based DSL using Paradyne's recently introduced GranDSLAM® 4200IP, a compact piece of equipment used within the telephone company's network infrastructure to deliver broadband connections over regular phone lines. The GranDSLAM 4200IP complements Paradyne's extensive DSL infrastructure product line that has been in use by network service providers since 1996.
"MTS is at the forefront of effectively implementing voice, high-speed data, and video entertainment services over their existing network," said William Cobb, vice president of product management at Paradyne. "Consumers are rapidly adopting new, bandwidth-intense applications and MTS is meeting that need and expanding their coverage."
