2/25/2004 - Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH), an international supplier of next-generation networking technologies, announced plans for a new addition to its board-level network security product line at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, California. This represents the third product in this family of network security solutions from Interphase.
The new Interphase 5585 PCI/PCI-X network security acceleration adapter is scheduled for general availability in Q3, and like the 45NS and 55NS, is designed to eliminate the bottleneck of network traffic caused by today's VPNs, gateways, secure routers, and firewalls. Integrating the Interphase security accelerator cards into these applications will increase network efficiency and response times by offloading bandwidth-intensive IPSec security protocol processing from the host CPU in systems security encryption and decryption. The 5585 PCI/PCI-X module is designed to support Gigabit line speed network security applications, and is expected to offer nearly a twenty five times improvement in system performance compared to a software-only based network security solution. This is measured by increased throughput rates along with a decrease in CPU utilization for packet sizes ranging from 1,024 to 131,072 bytes.
Based on the newly announced Hifn 8155 security processor, the Interphase 5585 adapter accelerates processing of basic security algorithms including DES, 3DES, MD5, SHA-1, RC4, and AES, with enhanced encryption protocol support for 192- and 256-bit 3DES keys, and 256-bit AES (wide key AES) keys, required for today's most advanced network security solutions. Other product features include a 64-bit/133MHz PCI/PCI-X bus with universal signaling, 128 Mbytes of private memory for security session data and parameter storage, and support for OC-12 (622Mbps) rates and up to 500K simultaneous sessions.
During the four-day conference, Interphase is demonstrating the performance of its network security adapters, together with its technology partner Hifn (Booth #1540), in a simulated application running IPSec in a Linux operating system environment utilizing the FreeSWAN IPSec stack. A pre-release PCI version of the 5585 will be sampling for select customers in early April. Customers designing the pre-release product into their platforms can expect a seamless transition to the even more robust 5585 PCI-X product later this year.
"The 5585 network security accelerator was developed to meet the growing demand from our customers for Gigabit-speed security solutions," said Randall McComas, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at Interphase Corporation. "Traditional software-based network security devices such as VPNs and secure routers require hardware assist to achieve this level of throughput, and the Interphase 5585 meets those needs."
"The Interphase 5585 PCI network security acceleration adapter will enable developers to significantly increase system throughput and decrease host CPU utilization, an improvement that will benefit network administrators and ultimately end users by reducing network bottlenecks," said Tom Moore, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hifn, Inc. "Our HIPP Security Processors are designed to be the most advanced in each of their respective classes, and are a key part in enabling network equipment providers to deliver next-generation systems that meet the wave of future security requirements."
Hifn, of Los Gatos, California makes integrated circuits and software for network infrastructure developers. Hifn's integrated data flow technology enables intelligent secure networks with compression, encryption and application-aware classification. This is central to the growth of the Internet; helping to make electronic mail, web browsing, Internet shopping and multimedia communications better, faster and more secure. Most of the major network equipment manufacturers use Hifn's patented technology to improve packet processing. Hifn was founded in 1996 and is traded on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the HIFN symbol. For more information, contact: Hifn, 750 University Avenue, Los Gatos, CA 95032. Phone: 408-399-3500.
