2/25/2004 - Xovix, Inc., a North American wireless engineering leader, announced that it has achieved sustained data throughput of more than 200 kbps using an EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) Terminal over a live network. In demonstrations at the Analog Devices stand D60 in Hall 2 at the 3GSM World Congress, company officials said its new EDGE solution significantly improves the speed and performance of wireless data connectivity.
"At these speeds, EDGE enables new applications and significantly improves the user experience for common applications such as web surfing, email, and multimedia", said Taizoon Doctor, President and CEO of Xovix. "Our goal is to apply our expertise in advanced wireless technologies such as EDGE to help our customers efficiently incorporate high performance wireless connectivity into their products and get them to market".
Xovix’s EDGE solution was developed with Analog Devices and TTPCom. It’s a full 8PSK transmit and receive, class 12, quadband (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) solution. The sustained 200 kbps results were achieved over the live AT&T EDGE network in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
"We are very pleased to help Xovix achieve this level of performance using Analog Devices Blackfin SoftFone for EDGE platform and Othello radio transceiver”, said Christian Kermarrec, vice president, RF and wireless systems, Analog Devices, Inc. "The Xovix solution adds EDGE capability to a wide range of products".
"Real world data rates are critical to the user experience", said Tony Milbourn, CEO of TTPCom. "We are very pleased that, by working with our partners at ADI and Xovix, we have together been able to demonstrate world class performance".
