Radiant Logic, TimesTen Increase LDAP Throughput for Updates by 660%

2/25/2004 - Radiant Logic, Inc., a leading provider of virtual directory solutions, and TimesTen, Inc., a provider of infrastructure software for real-time applications, announced that the companies are working together in a sales and marketing capacity to promote the use of the TimesTen® Real-Time Event Processing System combined with the RadiantOneTM Virtual Directory Solution. The combination addresses a significant problem facing today's enterprise directory architectures: LDAP directories scale well for read access, but can't handle the update volume required by identity management (IdM) applications. Recent benchmark studies conducted by the two companies demonstrated that the combination of RadiantOne and TimesTen outperformed traditional directory servers, with a 660% increase in update throughput.

"Historically, directory services have been used to store data that is not updated frequently," said Gerry Gebel, analyst from Burton Group. "Inadequate write performance can be a barrier to fully leveraging directory services deployment in carrier-class environments such as telecom and financial services. Highly scalable directory environments and easier data integration have grown increasingly more important as organizations look to deliver compelling new services while still enforcing rigorous security policies," added Gebel.

Radiant Logic and TimesTen address the increasing flexibility and performance needs of today's enterprise identity infrastructures in two ways. The first is through Radiant Logic's trademark virtualization capabilities. RadiantOne provides a virtual directory service integration layer that allows data from disparate data sources to be logically aggregated and thereby minimizing or eliminating the requirement for complex synchronization. The second is delivered by way of TimesTen's memory-optimized data management architecture which, when used with RadiantOne's virtual integration layer, removes the high-volume update bottleneck. Customers with current investments in RadiantOne can gain significantly faster write performance. TimesTen customers are able to access their data assets via the LDAP protocol, the industry standard in the world of identity management. The products together uniquely resolve the scalability limitations of directory services and ease the integration of disparate data sources.

"Radiant Logic's virtual directory solutions are leading the way to a new generation of more efficient directory-based solutions," said Jim Groff, CEO, TimesTen, Inc. "With the addition of TimesTen to RadiantOne, customers now have a no-compromise solution for enterprise security, identity information management and asset provisioning," added Groff.

"In the past, write speeds presented a huge challenge to achieving business goals when using a directory server," said Michel Prompt, CEO, Radiant Logic, Inc. "Together with TimesTen, we can now deliver the best in write performance, but without any compromise to the fast read speed and integration capabilities available through virtualization," added Prompt.
