Extended Systems Debuts Complete PC-to-handset Synchronization Solution

2/24/2004 - Extended Systems (Nasdaq: XTND) announced at 3GSM World Congress the release of ExtendConnect Mobile Suite. ExtendConnect Mobile Suite is a complete, out-of-the-box PC-to-handset synchronization solution tailored specifically to meet the needs of mobile handset manufacturers. With ExtendConnect Mobile Suite, handset manufacturers can implement end-to-end SyncML v.1.1.2 compliant synchronization capabilities into mobile phones quickly and easily, decreasing development time and shortening time-to-market.

Extended Systems has been working with mobile handset manufacturers since 1999 to implement synchronization capabilities. The company's desktop-to-phone synchronization software - XTNDConnect PC - is currently bundled with select handsets from Siemens, Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Building upon these experiences, Extended Systems has now incorporated its XTNDConnect PC software alongside its embedded synchronization technologies to offer a complete end-to-end solution.

There are three major components to ExtendConnect Mobile Suite. The package includes a client embedded SyncML SDK, a Windows communication suite, and Extended Systems' XTNDConnect PC desktop synchronization software, which is bundled with the mobile phone for end-user use. XTNDConnect PC supports Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, and other popular groupware applications. Because all elements are provided by one experienced mobile solutions provider, handset manufacturers are assured that the integration of end-to-end synchronization will be effortless.

"ExtendConnect Mobile Suite reduces time-to-market and lowers development costs," said Charles Jepson, president and CEO at Extended Systems. "Average integration time for synchronization can be reduced from six months to six weeks. That's a compelling statistic for any handset manufacturer who wants to bring products to market quickly."

Extended Systems also provides software development kits which enable handset manufacturers to incorporate Bluetooth wireless technology and IrDA connectivity options (enabling infrared financial messaging capabilities) into their devices. The integration of synchronization, Bluetooth wireless technology connectivity, and IrDA connectivity can be done simultaneously.
