2/19/2004 - PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the leading supplier of standard I/O interconnect silicon to the communications, server, storage and embedded-control industries, will be highlighting high-bandwidth digital imaging over an AdvancedTCA (ATCA) backplane using PCI Express(tm) technology at the Intel Developer Forum. The company will demonstrate individual ATCA emulation boards, based on the PLX® PCI-to-PCI Express bridge architecture, to transfer real-time captured digital images over a PCI Express link and for the first time utilize both forward and reverse PCI Express bridging.
"As PCI Express expands into an ever-widening range of applications in both embedded and communications platforms, we're seeing tremendous progress in system designs that highlight the power of this technology," said Tim Parker, technology initiatives manager at Intel. "PLX has championed the PCI Express specification, showed applications such as this demonstration of digital imaging over PCI Express technology at IDF, and has contributed to a strong ecosystem around PCI Express technology."
In addition to the PLX demonstration, Jack Regula, PLX vice president and chief technology officer, and Larry Chisvin, PLX vice president of marketing, will deliver at IDF a comprehensive interconnect technology presentation centering on the PCI Express architecture. Regula and Chisvin will share the podium to present on system interconnect and backplane trends, PCI Express technology and Advanced Switching, migrating to PCI Express, and AS on a system backplane. (Session PCIS012, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 4:30 p.m., Room 2008)
PLX brings a wealth of expertise and rich history in advanced I/O interconnects, including PCI Express. Since 2001, PLX has participated in advancing PCI Express as a standard and is developing devices targeted at the first wave of PCI Express-based systems the first half of this year. PLX is an active member of the PCI Special Interest Group (PCI SIGTM), the organization responsible for the release of all PCI Express specifications; the Advanced Switching Interconnect Special Interest Group (ASI SIG); and the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®). The company is chairing several subcommittees within the PCI SIG, and chaired and edited the PICMG 3.4 initiative for AdvancedTCA.
PLX already has demonstrated a fully functional ATCA platform with an emulated version of the industry's first PCI Express switch and bridge devices.
PLX is among the industry's first suppliers to announce support and development efforts for PCI Express technology. The company expects to see systems based on its PCI Express silicon in early 2004.
PLX has been developing I/O interconnect solutions since 1986.
