2/18/2004 - Commercial board vendors will now have a significant advantage in creating highly reliable, high-performance embedded solutions by accessing source code to the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS — at no charge — thanks to a new board enablement program introduced by QNX Software Systems.
Board vendors wishing to commercially develop, support, and, promote board support packages (BSPs) based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS can now bring these solutions to market more quickly and efficiently. The QNX BSP Enablement Program provides qualifying board vendors with a QNX Momentics® development suite, including its full-featured IDE, driver development kits, and source code for sample BSPs, all at no cost.
Additionally, QNX will provide no-cost training and an enhanced support program so vendors can directly access QNX BSP development experts during the porting and development phase. Vendors that introduce a commercial BSP for QNX will also be granted the license to distribute it royalty free.
“In the embedded systems market, software cannot stand independent from hardware,” said Dave Curley, vice president of marketing at QNX Software Systems. “Enabling third parties around the world to develop and distribute QNX-targeted BSPs will be a terrific boost to our partners who are looking to shorten their development times and help get their customers’ designs to market faster.”
“The QNX BSP Enablement program is instrumental to our strategy of bringing the high performance and low power consumption of our HiCO.SH4 embedded PC/104-based platforms into the industrial marketplace,” said Mr.Dieter Baur, managing director at emtrion GmbH, a leading vendor of embedded computers and services headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany. “QNX’s mature support for the Renesas SH-4 architecture, together with the technical support and well-documented source code provided by the program, saves us an enormous amount of development effort — we no longer have to write everything from scratch.”
"We've already developed QNX BSPs for six Ampro single-board computers, thanks to our early participation in the enablement program,”.said Paul Rosenfeld, CTO of Ampro Computers, the leading global provider of modular embedded computing solutions. “As a result, our medical and industrial OEM customers can now start developing their QNX-based solutions right out of the box. Moreover, the no-cost support and royalty-free licenses mean we don't have to pass additional costs onto customers - which is great for business, both theirs and ours."
