Fujitsu Develops Infrastructure for Online Motor Tax System
2/16/2004 - Fujitsu welcomes the launch of a new online motor tax system (OMT) announced by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr. Martin Cullen TD.
The new system, for which Fujitsu implemented the core infrastructure, promises to provide an enhanced level of service to the Department’s motor tax customers. Vehicle owners can access the system via the internet and pay for the renewal of their motor tax, including any arrears. They are guaranteed receipt of their disc within five working days.
According to Mr. Phil O'Flaherty, project manager for the OMT service, "This was a major development involving several organisations. Fujitsu built the infrastructure for the live, test and development environments and did the stress testing to ensure that it would stand up to the expected workload. They also host the test site. The project was delivered on time and to schedule, and we are extremely satisfied with the outcome."
John Clare, Fujitsu MD pointed to the Department’s impressive track record in the implementation of e-Government projects, saying: "Fujitsu has worked successfully with the Department to roll out, install and manage the IT infrastructure for its National Driver and Vehicle Licence System, which operates every day in every county in Ireland. We also support its live data centre in Shannon and its hot recovery site. We were delighted therefore to be a part of this major project for on-line service delivery to the citizen, which shows the Department’s strong and on-going commitment to progressing the e-Government agenda."
