EDN Selects QNX as Finalist for Innovation of the Year Award

2/16/2004 - QNX Software Systems announced it has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist for this year's EDN Innovator/Innovation Awards. This exclusive awards program honors outstanding electronic products, ranging from integrated circuits to test equipment, as well as the creative engineers who invent them.

EDN's technical editors selected the QNX power management framework as an Innovation Awards finalist in the software category. The QNX power management framework enables developers to create highly optimized, application-specific power management policies. Unlike conventional approaches to power management, the QNX framework gives designers precise, fine-grained control over the power consumption of each system component. As a result, each component draws power only when it has to. With the QNX power management framework, system designers can create a highly customized power management policy for each system they deploy, achieving longer battery life and, in many cases, a more responsive user experience.

"We always get an outstanding set of entries to our Innovation program," said EDN Editor-in-Chief Maury Wright. "The chosen finalists should be proud of their selection because many worthy products barely missed the cut.

In the next few weeks, EDN's worldwide audience of electronics engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among these finalists. An online voting form is available to the public at www.edn.com. EDN's editorial staff and the EDN Editorial Advisory Board will also take part in determining the final winners. Innovation award recipients will be announced at a ceremony on March 29, 2004, in San Francisco.

QNX's power management framework is also a finalist for the Embedded Award 2004 sponsored by the Embedded World Conference, in Nuremberg, Germany. Winners will be announced at the show on February 17, 2004.

"QNX is committed to bringing developers innovative, yet reliable products for system design,"said Dave Curley, vice president of Marketing at QNX Software Systems. "EDN's recognition of QNX's power management framework underscores the growing demand for power-efficient applications in the embedded market place. Once again, QNX is a leader in developing solutions that increase the performance and availability of mission-critical systems."
