2/13/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Shougang NEC Electronics Co. Ltd. (SGNEC), one of China's leading semiconductor foundries, has purchased the Agilent 93000 SOC Series test system for northern China's first system-on-a-chip (SOC) IC testing production line. The production line, located in Beijing, is a reference site that will show other Chinese companies how to create advanced testing facilities for high-end SOC IC test. The Agilent 93000 provides sophisticated mixed-signal testing capabilities and is ideal for verifying and testing consumer ICs, an area of high volume for SGNEC.
"The complex consumer IC chipsets we manufacture require sophisticated test systems capable of verifying the most difficult mixed-signal devices," said Feng Xinhua, director of SGNEC's Assembly and Test Division. "We are very glad to see the first SOC test system installed in SGNEC to demonstrate our capability and ambition in advancing to the high-end SOC test arena. The Agilent 93000's advanced features help us shorten test times, and it is our first choice for our new SOC testing production line."
Strong demand for mixed-signal consumer ICs is driving SGNEC to expand its testing capabilities. The overall IC market in China is forecast to grow 20.3 percent this year.
"SGNEC's business philosophies of cooperation, contribution and creation align with what Agilent is doing in China to advance the country's IC industry," said Paul Yang, general manager for Agilent's Semiconductor Test Equipment Group in China. "The successful opening of the first SOC testing reference site in Beijing demonstrates how two technology leaders can collaborate to create one of the most advanced high-end SOC IC testing facilities."
