2/12/2004 - The MultiVoIP Voice over IP gateway from Multi-Tech won a Best of Show award at the fall 2003 INTERNET TELEPHONY conference for its innovative approach in changing VoIP gateways from their traditional toll by-pass functions to more important roles in the branch office. With features like affordable survivability and trunking, MultiVOIP gateways help enable a branch office to successfully operate as a remote IP location of a centralized IP PBX system. The MultiVOIP line will be shown at the INTERNET TELEPHONY ’04 Conference and Expo starting February 11 at the Hyatt Miami in booth 502.
“As enterprises have invested in IP enabled PBXs and pushed IP phones and technology to smaller offices, they have faced the dilemma of what to do for local trunk access and survivability”, said Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “We have come up with an affordable answer by changing the traditional role of VoIP gateways. Starting with our MultiVOIP gateways, we added the features needed for an enterprise branch office to utilize the power and capability of a networked IP PBX. The adding of IP Telephony to small offices requires a range of features, capabilities, and interfaces far beyond the basics of voice and fax over IP communications. The specialized models of our gateways include a gatekeeper, the intelligence to communicate with the telephony server using its particular protocol, and the ability to bridge the PSTN to the IP network by connecting to one or more analog trunks.”
MultiVOIP models that combine IP Telephony gateway and gatekeeper functions bridge remote office voice and data networks to centralized IP PBX systems cost-effectively. MultiVOIPs enable the extension of IP telephony by providing the necessary remote office technology such as local trunk access and survivability. Local trunking is provided by the MultiVOIPs bridging PSTN lines to the IP network by connecting one or more analog trunks and functioning as an alternate gatekeeper. In the event of a WAN link failure, the MultiVOIP gateway provides its local survivability using a PSTN fail-over capability that automatically redirects calls to the public telephone network.
