2/12/2004 - Accelerated Technology®, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT), announced a version of the Nucleus® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for developers using the Renesas Technology H8S/2674R microcontroller unit (MCU). This Nucleus software release will give developers using the 16-bit H8S/2674R MCU a full-featured RTOS to address the high-performance needs of building office automation products such as printers, scanners, fax machines and network systems like high-speed buffer products for content download from the Internet and low-end multimedia and handheld devices.
The Nucleus RTOS provides a scalable and robust platform that meets the high processing needs of all types of today's embedded systems. The Nucleus PLUS kernel is reliable and flexible; developers can scale the kernel down to as small as 15KB, including both code and data sizes. The Nucleus NET networking stack, an embedded TCP/IP protocol stack, was built from the ground up for the real-time embedded market. In addition, critical portions of the stack have been optimized, resulting in a stack that is among the smallest and fastest on the market.
"We are getting requests for 16-bit connectivity solutions from our local and global industrial, automotive and medical customers. By adding the Nucleus RTOS and the Nucleus NET TCP/IP to the Renesas EDOSK2674R, we can provide a reliable 'connected' system solution with a flexible development environment," said Tim Dry, segment marketing manager, Renesas Technology America, Inc., the U.S. unit of the joint venture of Hitachi, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
"We see developers building high-performance, cost-sensitive applications that are looking for a flexible, reliable RTOS provided without royalty fees like the Nucleus RTOS," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "The combination of performance and scalability of the Nucleus RTOS and the H8S/2674R makes this a very appealing choice for these embedded developers."
Pricing and Availability
The development platform for the H8S/2674R device (H8S EDOSK2674R) is available for a special promotional price of $200 through Renesas Technology distributors plus the cost of software. The Nucleus embedded software is sold in source code format and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495.
