2/6/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Haier (Beijing) IC Design Company Ltd. has selected its SmarTest Program Generator design-for-test software to reduce test time for China's first commercial set-top box (STB) ICs for digital television. The Agilent 93000 SmarTest Program Generator (SmarTest PG) software is used for developing engineering and volume production tests for Haier's Hi2010 Patriot Series of MPEG-II decoder ICs.
The Hi2010 is a high-performance, low-cost and easy-to-use MPEG-II decoder that integrates the decoding functions of ISO/IEC 13818 standards to decode and replay the modulated video and audio signals for digital satellite/cable television receivers.
"Test vector generation and test program development are difficult tasks within the digital television and set-top box IC design market," said Yan-Chun Yang, vice general manager of Haier (Beijing) IC Design. "Agilent's SmarTest PG solution helps complete these complicated and time-consuming tasks in a short time, enabling Haier to deliver more error-free devices in volume production. Agilent is committed to helping resolve the problems that keep our engineers awake at night."
"The strategic relationship of Haier and Agilent demonstrates a successful model for IC design and test collaboration in China," said Paul Yang, general manager of Agilent's Semiconductor Test Equipment Group in China. "The Agilent 93000 SOC Series stands as the industry-standard platform for digital television and STB IC test, providing proven flexibility at a competitive cost."
According to a recent article in Electronic Engineering Times - Asia(1), the consumer electronics market grew 18 percent in 2003 and will continue to boost China's IC industry in 2004. Digital television is one of the areas expected to drive demand for ICs in China. Overall, the Chinese IC market is expected to grow at a rate of 20.3 percent from 2004 to 2005.
About Agilent SmarTest PG
Agilent SmarTest PG is an interactive, graphically oriented digital pattern, timing, and format generation suite of tools. Rather than simply translating files, SmarTest PG manages the test development process for each port from data extraction to generation of directly downloadable files, targeting the Agilent 93000 platform's advanced capabilities. SmarTest PG is part of Agilent's Power of DFT3 strategy for lowering cost of test and accelerating time to market through a combination of tools, alliances and standards, and the 93000 single scalable platform.
