TimeSys Offers Public Beta Program for Linux 2.6 Development Kits

2/5/2004 - TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux(R) and development tools, announced a public beta program for its TimeStorm(R) Linux Development Kits (LDKs) bundling TimeSys' TimeStorm Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with a beta version of the first commercial port of Linux v2.6 to the PowerPC architecture. For embedded Linux developers interested in testing the capabilities of the Linux 2.6 kernel on the 8260 PowerPC processor, the beta version of the TimeStorm LDK for PPC8260 can be downloaded from http://www.timesys.com/2.6.

TimeSys anticipates full-release 2.6 kernel-based TimeSys Linux distributions to be available by the end of February, with support for more processor architectures to follow in the coming months. TimeStorm LDKs will help accelerate the adoption of the Linux 2.6 kernel for embedded projects by providing a complete Linux 2.6 development environment for embedded platforms with powerful Windows- and Linux-hosted TimeStorm development and testing tools.

"The work we've undertaken to port the Linux 2.6 kernel to embedded platforms is enabling embedded systems developers to quickly and easily leverage the enhanced capabilities offered by the latest version of Linux," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman. "The feedback we anticipate from the public beta program for the PowerPC version of our TimeStorm LDK will ensure that we continue to provide developers with the tools they need to successfully adopt the new Linux kernel for embedded projects."

Beta versions of the 2.6-based TimeStorm LDKs for the PPC8260 and IA32 processors are now available for free download at http://www.timesys.com/2.6. TimeStorm LDKs bundle the Eclipse-powered TimeStorm IDE with a Linux 2.6 distribution that includes a 2.6 Linux kernel, certified GNU toolchains, device drivers, a complete root filesystem and documentation. Production release versions of both TimeStorm LDKs are slated for general availability later this month through TimeSys sales and distribution channels, and online at www.timesys.com/buy, starting at $995 per developer seat, royalty-free.
