2/5/2004 - As part of establishing a broad ecosystem of compatible networked storage components, Wasabi Systems announced that its Storage Builder(tm) for iSCSI Appliances supports the market's leading software initiators and key hardware storage adaptors and accelerators. Adaptors supported by Storage Builder include the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adaptor and the Adaptec 7211C host bus adaptor. The Alacritech 1000x1 IPP TCP/IP Offload adaptor has also been tested and is fully supported with the Microsoft iSCSI initiator. Fully supported and tested initiators supporting Windows and Linux have been validated in Wasabi's Performance & Validation labs.
OEMs that use Wasabi Storage Builder now have an exceptionally broad array of implementation choices and options in deploying native iSCSI target appliances with the market-leading server operating systems. By using Wasabi's reference designs and choosing from its list of pre-certified off the shelf hardware components, the up-front engineering cost and time to market is minimal. Wasabi's eco-system also includes the latest server motherboards from Intel and SuperMicro, drive technology from Seagate, Western Digital and Maxtor; and RAID acceleration technology from Adaptec and 3Ware.
"It's very rewarding to see how well key OEMs are receiving the Wasabi Storage Builder product line", said Frank Logan, CEO of Wasabi Systems. "With several well-known OEMs and storage integrators on the verge of releasing native iSCSI target appliances powered by Wasabi Storage Builder, we expect a dramatic increase in end-user acceptance of iSCSI enabled products."
The iSCSI initiator for Microsoft's Windows server and standard operating systems may be downloaded free at (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/). The Linux iSCSI software initiator is available from the SourceForge developers' site. Leading distributions from SuSE and Red Hat are fully supported.
